Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add linguine and cook until al dente, according to package instructions (about 9–11 minutes). Reserve 1/2 cup of pasta water, then drain the linguine and set aside.
While the pasta is cooking, pat the shrimp dry with a paper towel and season them with salt and pepper.
In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of butter and 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat.
Add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes to the skillet, cooking for 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic.
Add the seasoned shrimp to the skillet in a single layer. Cook for 1–2 minutes per side, or until the shrimp turn pink and are cooked through. Remove the shrimp and set aside.
In the same skillet, deglaze the pan with white wine (if using), scraping up any browned bits. Allow the wine to simmer for 1–2 minutes to reduce slightly.
Stir in the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter and lemon juice, letting the butter melt completely to form a sauce.
Return the cooked linguine to the skillet, tossing it in the sauce to coat evenly. If the pasta seems dry, add a few tablespoons of the reserved pasta water.
Add the shrimp back to the skillet, along with the chopped parsley. Toss gently to combine.
Taste and adjust seasoning with additional salt and pepper, if needed.
Serve the linguine hot, garnished with more parsley and grated Parmesan cheese, if desired.
