Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground beef
  • 1 medium Onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 6 ounces Tomato paste
  • 1.5 cups Water
  • 2 tablespoons Yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons Chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon Ground black pepper

Directions

Step 1

In a large skillet or saucepan over medium heat, add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. Drain any excess grease.

Step 2

Add the finely chopped onion and minced garlic to the pan and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

Step 3

Stir in the tomato paste and cook for 2 minutes to develop its flavor.

Step 4

Pour in the water and stir to combine. Reduce the heat to medium-low.

Step 5

Add the yellow mustard, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, paprika, ground cumin, sugar, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to combine all the spices and seasonings.

Step 6

Simmer the sauce uncovered for 25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened and flavorful. If the sauce becomes too thick, add a tablespoon of water at a time to reach your desired consistency.

Step 7

Taste and adjust seasonings if needed. Serve the Coney Island sauce warm over hot dogs, fries, or burgers.
