Ingredients

  • 8 cups (finely chopped) Green cabbage
  • 2 medium (shredded) Carrots
  • 0.25 cup (finely grated) Onion
  • 0.5 cup Mayonnaise
  • 0.25 cup Buttermilk
  • 2.5 tablespoons White vinegar
  • 1.5 tablespoons Lemon juice
  • 0.33 cup Granulated sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon Ground black pepper
  • 0.125 teaspoon Celery seed

Directions

Step 1

Prepare the vegetables by finely chopping the green cabbage, shredding the carrots, and grating the onion. For the most authentic texture, use a food processor, but you can also chop the cabbage manually to a very fine consistency.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the green cabbage, shredded carrots, and grated onion. Toss them together to evenly distribute.

Step 3

In a separate medium-sized bowl, prepare the dressing. Whisk together the mayonnaise, buttermilk, white vinegar, lemon juice, granulated sugar, salt, ground black pepper, and celery seed until the mixture is smooth and creamy.

Step 4

Pour the dressing over the cabbage mixture and stir well until all the vegetables are coated in the dressing.

Step 5

Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or transfer the coleslaw to an airtight container. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld together and the coleslaw to become cold and creamy.

Step 6

Before serving, give the coleslaw a good stir. Taste and adjust with additional salt or sugar if needed.

Step 7

Serve chilled as a side dish with your favorite meals.
