Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoons salt
  • 0.5 cups unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 0.75 cups whole milk
  • 1 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 cups sliced almonds
  • 2 tablespoons extra granulated sugar (for topping)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

Step 3

In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.

Step 4

Add the eggs to the butter mixture one at a time, beating well after each addition. Then, mix in the vanilla extract.

Step 5

Reduce the mixer speed to low and alternately add the dry ingredients and the milk to the butter mixture, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix.

Step 6

Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly with a spatula.

Step 7

In a small bowl, combine the cinnamon and 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar. Sprinkle the mixture evenly over the top of the batter.

Step 8

Scatter the sliced almonds over the top of the sugar and cinnamon mixture.

Step 9

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.

Step 10

Remove the cake from the oven and allow it to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before slicing and serving. Enjoy warm or at room temperature.
