Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ground turkey or lean ground beef
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Onion powder
  • 0.5 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Black pepper
  • 4 slices Reduced-fat cheddar cheese slices
  • 4 buns Whole wheat burger buns
  • 4 leaves Lettuce leaves
  • 4 slices Tomato slices
  • 4 slices Pickles (optional)
  • 4 tsp Ketchup
  • 4 tsp Mustard

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your George Foreman grill for at least 5 minutes with the lid closed.

Step 2

In a medium mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey or lean ground beef, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until the seasonings are evenly distributed.

Step 3

Divide the meat mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into a patty approximately 1/2-inch thick.

Step 4

Place the patties on the preheated grill. Close the lid and cook for 5-6 minutes for turkey or 4-5 minutes for beef, or until the internal temperature reaches at least 165°F for turkey or 160°F for beef.

Step 5

During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of reduced-fat cheddar cheese on each patty and close the grill lid to melt the cheese.

Step 6

While the patties are cooking, lightly toast the whole wheat burger buns (optional).

Step 7

Assemble the burgers by placing one cooked patty with melted cheese on the bottom half of each bun. Layer with a lettuce leaf, tomato slice, pickle slice (if using), and your desired condiments such as ketchup and mustard.

Step 8

Top with the other half of the bun and serve immediately. Enjoy your light cheesy burgers!
