Ingredients

  • 5 medium Lemons
  • 200 grams Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon Red Chili Powder
  • 1 tablespoon (grated) Ginger
  • 1 teaspoon (minced) Garlic
  • 2 tablespoons Raisins
  • 50 milliliters White Vinegar
  • 150 milliliters Water

Directions

Step 1

Wash the lemons thoroughly and pat dry. Cut them into small pieces and remove any seeds.

Step 2

In a saucepan, combine the lemon pieces, sugar, salt, and ground turmeric. Stir well to coat the lemons with the spices and sugar.

Step 3

Add water to the saucepan and bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat.

Step 4

Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.

Step 5

Add the grated ginger, minced garlic, and raisins. Continue cooking for another 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 6

Add the red chili powder and white vinegar to the mixture. Stir well to combine and cook for an additional 5–10 minutes, or until the chutney thickens to your desired consistency.

Step 7

Remove the chutney from heat and let it cool completely.

Step 8

Transfer the chutney to a clean, airtight jar for storage. It can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 1 month.

Step 9

Serve the lemon chutney as a condiment with bread, rice, or your favorite dishes.
