Ingredients

  • 300 g all-purpose flour
  • 150 g unsalted butter (cold, cubed)
  • 6 tbsp cold water
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 large egg (for egg wash, beaten)
  • 200 g leftover cooked meat or protein (e.g., shredded chicken, beef, ham, tofu)
  • 150 g leftover cooked vegetables (e.g., potatoes, carrots, peas, or greens)
  • 50 g grated cheese (optional)
  • 2 tbsp gravy or sauce (optional, for added moisture)
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 0.5 tsp dried herbs (e.g., thyme, rosemary, or parsley)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the cold, cubed butter and rub it into the flour with your fingers or a pastry cutter until it resembles coarse breadcrumbs.

Step 3

Gradually add cold water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing with a fork or your hands until the dough comes together. Form the dough into a ball, wrap it in cling film, and refrigerate for 20 minutes.

Step 4

While the dough chills, chop your leftover cooked meat or protein and vegetables into small, bite-sized pieces. Combine them in a bowl with grated cheese (if using), gravy or sauce (optional), black pepper, and dried herbs.

Step 5

Remove the dough from the refrigerator and roll it out on a floured surface to about 3mm thick. Use a medium-sized bowl or round cutter (approx. 6 inches/15 cm in diameter) to cut out circles.

Step 6

Spoon about 2-3 tablespoons of the leftover filling mixture onto one half of each circle, leaving a small border around the edge.

Step 7

Fold the dough over the filling to form a semi-circle. Press the edges together with your fingers or a fork to seal. Repeat with the remaining dough and filling.

Step 8

Carefully transfer the pasties to the prepared baking sheet and brush the tops with beaten egg for a golden finish.

Step 9

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the pasties are golden brown and flaky.

Step 10

Allow the pasties to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm as a snack, lunch, or dinner!
