Ingredients

  • 4 slices Leftover bread (any type)
  • 1 large Boiled potato
  • 1 medium Onion (finely chopped)
  • 1 small Green chili (finely chopped)
  • 2 tablespoons Coriander leaves (finely chopped)
  • 1 teaspoon Ginger (grated)
  • 0.5 teaspoon Cumin powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon Red chili powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon Garam masala
  • 0.5 cup Breadcrumbs
  • 0.25 cup Water
  • 0.25 cup Vegetable oil (for frying)

Directions

Step 1

Tear the leftover bread into small pieces and place them in a large mixing bowl.

Step 2

Add 1/4 cup of water to the bread pieces and let them soak for 1-2 minutes. Then use your hands to squeeze out excess water and mash the bread until it forms a dough-like consistency.

Step 3

Peel the boiled potato and mash it into the bread mixture.

Step 4

Add the finely chopped onion, green chili, coriander leaves, and grated ginger to the bowl.

Step 5

Sprinkle in the cumin powder, red chili powder, salt, and garam masala. Mix everything thoroughly until a uniform mixture is achieved.

Step 6

If the mixture feels too wet, add breadcrumbs gradually to bind it better. The mixture should be soft but firm enough to shape.

Step 7

Divide the mixture into 8 equal portions and shape each into a round patty approximately 1/2 inch thick.

Step 8

Heat the vegetable oil in a non-stick pan over medium heat.

Step 9

Carefully place the patties in the pan in a single layer without overcrowding. Fry for 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.

Step 10

Once cooked, transfer the patties to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.

Step 11

Serve the leftover bread patties hot with ketchup, chutney, or yogurt dip.
