Ingredients

  • 500 grams ground beef or lamb
  • 1 large onion
  • 1 bunch fresh parsley
  • 1 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 pieces garlic cloves
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 50 grams pine nuts (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Begin by finely chopping the onion and parsley. You can also use a food processor to ensure a finer, even consistency.

Step 2

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef or lamb with the chopped onion and parsley.

Step 3

Add the ground allspice, ground cinnamon, ground black pepper, and salt to the meat mixture.

Step 4

Peel and mince the garlic cloves and add them to the bowl.

Step 5

Using your hands, thoroughly mix all ingredients until well combined.

Step 6

If using pine nuts, add them to the mixture and mix again.

Step 7

Divide the mixture into small portions of approximately 50 grams each and shape into oval or log-shaped patties.

Step 8

Brush each kafta with a bit of olive oil to prevent sticking and ensure even browning.

Step 9

Preheat a grill or a pan over medium-high heat. If grilling, consider using skewers for the kafta but it's not necessary.

Step 10

Cook the kafta for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until browned and cooked through. Adjust the cooking time based on the thickness of your patties.

Step 11

Serve hot, accompanied by pita bread, a side salad, or rice.
