Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ground beef
  • 0.5 lb Ground pork
  • 1 medium Yellow onion, diced
  • 3 cloves Garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 medium head Green cabbage, chopped into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 cup Uncooked white rice
  • 28 oz Canned diced tomatoes
  • 15 oz Tomato sauce
  • 2 cups Beef broth
  • 1 tsp Paprika
  • 1 tsp Dried thyme
  • 1.5 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Ground black pepper
  • 1 tbsp Vegetable oil
  • 2 tbsp Fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Step 2

Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or sauté pan over medium-high heat.

Step 3

Add the ground beef, ground pork, and onion to the skillet. Cook until the meat is browned and fully cooked, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon, about 8 minutes.

Step 4

Stir in the minced garlic, paprika, dried thyme, salt, and black pepper. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

Step 5

In a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, spread half of the chopped cabbage evenly across the bottom.

Step 6

Layer the uncooked white rice on top of the cabbage in an even layer.

Step 7

Spread the cooked meat mixture evenly over the rice.

Step 8

Top with the remaining chopped cabbage.

Step 9

In a large bowl, mix together the canned diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, and beef broth. Pour the mixture evenly over the casserole, ensuring all the rice and cabbage is covered with liquid.

Step 10

Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 50-60 minutes, or until the rice is fully cooked and the cabbage is tender.

Step 11

Remove the foil and bake uncovered for an additional 10 minutes to allow the top to brown slightly.

Step 12

Remove from the oven and let the casserole rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Step 13

Garnish with fresh parsley if desired and serve warm. Enjoy!
