Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon Ground nutmeg
  • 0.25 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.5 cups Unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cups Granulated sugar
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 0.75 cups Whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round or square cake pan. Optionally, line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

Step 2

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, ground nutmeg, and salt. Set aside.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, use an electric mixer to cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.

Step 4

Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed.

Step 5

Add the vanilla extract and mix until combined.

Step 6

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture in three additions, alternating with the milk. Start and end with the dry ingredients, mixing just until combined. Do not overmix.

Step 7

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and spread it evenly with a spatula.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Step 9

Remove the cake from the oven and allow it to cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 10

Once cooled, dust the cake with powdered sugar before serving. Slice and enjoy!
