Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup Granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon Ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon Ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon Ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/2 cup Pumpkin puree
  • 1/4 cup Heavy cream
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 1 cup Powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 2 tablespoons Milk (for glaze)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Vanilla extract (for glaze)
  • 1/4 teaspoon Ground cinnamon (for glaze, optional)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cloves, and salt.

Step 3

Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Step 4

In a separate bowl, whisk together the pumpkin puree, heavy cream, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth.

Step 5

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir with a spatula until just combined. Do not overmix; the dough will be sticky.

Step 6

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it 2–3 times until it comes together. Pat the dough into a circle about 1 inch thick and 7–8 inches in diameter.

Step 7

Using a sharp knife or bench scraper, cut the dough into 8 equal wedges. Place the wedges onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them a bit apart.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 14–16 minutes, or until the scones are golden and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow them to cool slightly on the baking sheet before transferring to a wire rack.

Step 9

To make the glaze, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, vanilla extract, and cinnamon (if using) in a small bowl until smooth.

Step 10

Drizzle the glaze over the cooled scones. Allow the glaze to set before serving.
