Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.333 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 0.5 cup heavy cream, cold
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons cinnamon sugar (optional, for topping)
  • 0.5 cup powdered sugar (optional, for glaze)
  • 1 tablespoon milk (optional, for glaze)
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional, for glaze)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, ground cinnamon, and salt.

Step 3

Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients. Using a pastry cutter or your fingertips, work the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.

Step 4

In a small bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, egg, and vanilla extract.

Step 5

Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, mixing gently with a spatula or wooden spoon until the dough just comes together. Be careful not to overmix.

Step 6

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and shape it into a round disk approximately 8 inches in diameter and 1 inch thick.

Step 7

Using a sharp knife or bench scraper, cut the dough into 8 equal wedges.

Step 8

Transfer the scones to the prepared baking sheet, spacing them slightly apart. If desired, sprinkle the tops with cinnamon sugar.

Step 9

Bake in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes, or until the scones are lightly golden and firm to the touch.

Step 10

Remove from the oven and allow the scones to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 11

If making the glaze, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and ground cinnamon in a small bowl until smooth. Drizzle over the cooled scones.

Step 12

Serve warm or at room temperature. Enjoy with coffee, tea, or as a delightful standalone treat!
