Ingredients

  • 5 sheets matzoh
  • 6 medium apples
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter
  • 0.5 cup raisins
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.

Step 2

Break the matzoh sheets into small pieces and place them in a large bowl. Pour the warm water over the matzoh, let them soak for 2-3 minutes until softened, then drain thoroughly and set aside.

Step 3

Peel, core, and thinly slice the apples. Toss the apple slices in a separate bowl with lemon juice to prevent browning.

Step 4

In a large mixing bowl, beat the eggs with the sugar and cinnamon until well combined.

Step 5

Melt the butter in a small saucepan or microwave, then pour it into the egg mixture and stir well.

Step 6

Add the softened matzoh, apples, and raisins into the egg mixture. Mix gently to combine without mashing the matzoh.

Step 7

Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it out evenly. Sprinkle a little extra cinnamon on top if desired.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the kugel is set.

Step 9

Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy it warm or at room temperature!
