Ingredients

  • 8 sheets Lasagna noodles
  • 500 grams Ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 1 medium Yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves Garlic cloves, minced
  • 800 grams Canned crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons Tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon Dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon Dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 250 grams Whole milk ricotta cheese
  • 60 grams Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1 large Egg
  • 250 grams Mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh parsley, chopped (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 190°C (375°F) and lightly grease a 9x9-inch baking dish.

Step 2

Cook the lasagna noodles according to the package instructions. Drain and lay them flat on a baking sheet to prevent sticking.

Step 3

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until soft, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute.

Step 4

Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks, about 7-8 minutes. Drain any excess fat.

Step 5

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 6

In a medium bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, grated Parmesan, egg, and optional fresh parsley. Mix until smooth and set aside.

Step 7

Spread a thin layer of the meat sauce on the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Arrange a layer of 2-3 lasagna noodles on top.

Step 8

Spread a third of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, followed by a third of the shredded mozzarella, and a layer of the meat sauce. Repeat these layers two more times, ending with a top layer of mozzarella cheese.

Step 9

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil, ensuring the foil does not touch the cheese. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.

Step 10

Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the top is golden brown.

Step 11

Remove the lasagna from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes to firm up before slicing and serving.
