Ingredients

  • 1 head Green cabbage
  • 6 slices Bacon
  • 1 medium Yellow onion
  • 3 cloves Garlic
  • 2 tablespoons Butter
  • 1 teaspoon Smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
  • 0.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoons Black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil

Directions

Step 1

Cut the cabbage into thin strips (core removed) and set aside.

Step 2

Slice the bacon into small pieces and place it in a large skillet or frying pan.

Step 3

Cook the bacon over medium heat until crispy, then remove it from the skillet with a slotted spoon. Leave the rendered bacon fat in the skillet.

Step 4

Dice the onion and mince the garlic. Add olive oil to the skillet if needed, then sauté the onion in the bacon fat over medium heat until softened and translucent, about 3-4 minutes.

Step 5

Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.

Step 6

Stir in the butter, allowing it to melt completely. Add the smoked paprika and Cajun seasoning, stirring to coat the onions and garlic in the spices.

Step 7

Add the cabbage to the skillet, stirring everything together. Cook for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender and slightly caramelized.

Step 8

Season the cabbage with salt and black pepper to taste. Stir in the cooked bacon pieces and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to combine flavors.

Step 9

Transfer the fried cabbage to a serving dish and serve hot as a side dish or enjoy as a main course.
