Ingredients

  • 500 grams Ground beef
  • 250 grams Ground pork
  • 100 grams Breadcrumbs
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 medium (finely chopped) Onion
  • 2 cloves (minced) Garlic
  • 1 teaspoon Caraway seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Butter
  • 2 tablespoons Flour
  • 500 milliliters Beef broth
  • 100 milliliters Heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons (chopped) Fresh parsley

Directions

Step 1

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, egg, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, caraway seeds, salt, and black pepper.

Step 2

Mix the ingredients with your hands or a wooden spoon until well combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this can make the meatballs tough.

Step 3

Form the mixture into small meatballs, about the size of a golf ball. You should get approximately 16-20 meatballs.

Step 4

In a large skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter. Add the meatballs in batches and cook until browned on all sides, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the meatballs from the skillet and set aside.

Step 5

Add the remaining tablespoon of butter to the skillet. Once melted, sprinkle in the flour and whisk continuously for 2-3 minutes to make a roux.

Step 6

Slowly pour in the beef broth while whisking to prevent lumps. Bring the mixture to a simmer and let it thicken for 3-5 minutes.

Step 7

Stir in the heavy cream, mustard, and an additional pinch of caraway seeds if desired. Adjust seasoning with more salt and pepper to taste.

Step 8

Carefully return the meatballs to the skillet, spooning the sauce over them to coat. Cover and simmer on low heat for 15 minutes, allowing the meatballs to cook through and absorb the flavors of the sauce.

Step 9

Garnish with chopped fresh parsley before serving.

Step 10

Serve the Kummel Klops with mashed potatoes, spaetzle, or crusty bread for a complete meal.
