Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 cup Unsalted butter (cold, cubed)
  • 2 tablespoons Water (cold)
  • 1 cup Unsalted butter
  • 1 cup Water
  • 1 cup All-purpose flour
  • 3 Large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon Almond extract
  • 1 cup Powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Milk
  • 2 tablespoons Sliced almonds

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a medium bowl, add 2 cups of all-purpose flour. Cut in 1 cup of cold, cubed unsalted butter using a pastry cutter or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Step 3

Add 2 tablespoons of cold water and mix until the dough comes together. Divide the dough into two equal portions.

Step 4

Press each portion into a long rectangular strip (approximately 3 inches wide and 12 inches long) on the prepared baking sheet. Set aside.

Step 5

In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup of unsalted butter and 1 cup of water. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally.

Step 6

Remove the saucepan from the heat and immediately stir in 1 cup of all-purpose flour until a thick dough forms.

Step 7

Transfer the dough to a mixing bowl and let it cool for about 5 minutes. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition until the dough is smooth.

Step 8

Stir in 1 teaspoon of almond extract. Spread the dough evenly over the two prepared pastry bases.

Step 9

Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the topping is puffed and golden. Allow the kringlers to cool completely on a wire rack.

Step 10

In a small bowl, whisk together 1 cup of powdered sugar and 2 tablespoons of milk until smooth. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled kringlers.

Step 11

Sprinkle the sliced almonds over the glaze for garnish. Slice into pieces and serve.
