Ingredients

  • 227 grams unsalted butter, softened
  • 227 grams cream cheese, softened
  • 250 grams all-purpose flour
  • 25 grams granulated sugar
  • 120 grams fruit preserves (e.g., apricot, raspberry, or cherry)
  • 50 grams powdered sugar (for dusting)
  • 5 milliliters vanilla extract

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and cream cheese until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.

Step 2

Gradually mix in the vanilla extract and sugar, then slowly add the flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.

Step 3

Divide the dough into two portions, flatten each into a disc, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or until firm.

Step 4

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

Step 5

On a lightly floured surface, roll out one portion of dough to about 1/4-inch thickness.

Step 6

Using a 2-inch round or square cookie cutter, cut out shapes and place them onto the parchment-lined baking sheets about 1 inch apart.

Step 7

Make a small indentation in the center of each cookie with your thumb or the back of a spoon, being careful not to go all the way through the dough.

Step 8

Spoon about 1/2 teaspoon of fruit preserves into each indentation.

Step 9

Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges of the kolackys are lightly golden.

Step 10

Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 11

Once cooled, generously dust the kolackys with powdered sugar before serving.
