Ingredients

  • 5 ounces canned tuna (in water, drained)
  • 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons celery, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon pickle relish
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 pieces bread slices
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened

Directions

Step 1

In a medium bowl, combine the drained tuna, mayonnaise, dijon mustard, celery, onion, pickle relish, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.

Step 2

Spread a thin layer of butter on one side of each slice of bread.

Step 3

Place two slices of bread, buttered side down, onto a skillet or griddle preheated over medium heat.

Step 4

Spread half of the tuna mixture evenly onto the non-buttered side of each slice of bread in the skillet.

Step 5

Top the tuna mixture on each slice with two slices of cheddar cheese.

Step 6

Place the remaining two slices of bread on top of the sandwiches, buttered side up.

Step 7

Cook for 2–3 minutes on one side, or until the bottom is golden brown and the cheese begins to melt.

Step 8

Carefully flip the sandwiches and cook for an additional 2–3 minutes on the other side, until golden brown and the cheese is fully melted.

Step 9

Remove the sandwiches from the skillet, slice each in half, and serve immediately. Enjoy your homemade tuna melt!
