Ingredients

  • 6 pieces Large eggs
  • 8 cups Water
  • 4 cups Ice

Directions

Step 1

Place the eggs in a single layer at the bottom of a medium-sized saucepan or pot. Do not overcrowd them.

Step 2

Add enough water to cover the eggs by about 1 inch (approximately 8 cups of water for 6 eggs).

Step 3

Set the saucepan over medium-high heat and bring the water to a rolling boil.

Step 4

Once the water starts boiling, turn off the heat immediately and cover the pot with a tightly fitting lid.

Step 5

Let the eggs sit in the hot water, undisturbed, for 12-14 minutes, depending on the yolk firmness you prefer (12 minutes for slightly softer yolks, 14 minutes for fully firm yolks).

Step 6

While the eggs are cooking, prepare the ice bath by filling a large bowl with 4 cups of ice and enough cold water to cover the ice.

Step 7

After the eggs have finished cooking, carefully transfer them to the ice bath using a slotted spoon. Let the eggs sit in the ice bath for 10 minutes to cool completely.

Step 8

To peel the eggs, gently tap each egg on a hard surface to crack the shell, then roll it lightly with your hand to loosen the shell. Start peeling from the wider end where the air pocket is located—this makes peeling easier.

Step 9

Rinse the peeled eggs under cold water to remove any small bits of shell. Pat dry and enjoy immediately, or store in the refrigerator for up to a week.
