Ingredients

  • 12 ounces spaghetti
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 0.5 pound ground pork
  • 0.5 cup breadcrumbs
  • 0.5 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 0.25 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 cups marinara sauce
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 0.5 cup additional grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a large baking dish and set aside.

Step 2

Cook the spaghetti according to package instructions until just al dente. Drain, rinse with cold water to stop cooking, and set aside.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, milk, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined.

Step 4

Roll the meat mixture into 1-inch meatballs and set them aside on a plate.

Step 5

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Working in batches to avoid overcrowding, brown the meatballs on all sides, about 2-3 minutes per side. They don't need to be fully cooked, as they will cook further in the casserole.

Step 6

Spread 1 cup of marinara sauce evenly across the bottom of the prepared baking dish.

Step 7

Toss the cooked spaghetti with 2 cups of marinara sauce and spread half of the spaghetti mixture over the sauce in the baking dish.

Step 8

Arrange the browned meatballs on top of the spaghetti layer, then spread the remaining spaghetti mixture over the meatballs.

Step 9

Pour the remaining 1 cup of marinara sauce evenly over the top layer of spaghetti.

Step 10

Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese and additional grated Parmesan cheese evenly over the top.

Step 11

Cover the casserole with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes. Then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

Step 12

Remove from the oven and let cool for 5-10 minutes before serving. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley, if desired.

Step 13

Serve warm and enjoy your comforting spaghetti and meatball casserole!
