Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground sausage
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 large yellow onion, diced
  • 3 stalks celery, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup dried cranberries
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 0.25 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 tsp dried sage
  • 0.5 tsp dried thyme
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper
  • 8 cups day-old bread cubes
  • 2 eggs, beaten

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.

Step 2

In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until browned and fully cooked, breaking it apart with a spoon. Remove the sausage from the skillet and set aside.

Step 3

In the same skillet, melt the butter. Add the diced onion and celery, and sauté for about 5 minutes, or until they are softened. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute.

Step 4

Stir in the dried cranberries, sage, thyme, salt, and black pepper. Cook for 1-2 minutes to warm the cranberries and combine the flavors.

Step 5

In a large mixing bowl, combine the bread cubes, cooked sausage, and the onion-celery mixture. Toss gently to combine.

Step 6

Pour the chicken broth evenly over the mixture, ensuring the bread cubes absorb the liquid. Stir in the beaten eggs and fresh parsley.

Step 7

Transfer the stuffing mixture to the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and slightly crisp.

Step 9

Remove from the oven and allow the stuffing to cool for 5 minutes before serving.
