Ingredients

  • 6 large Russet potatoes
  • 1 large Onion
  • 4 large Eggs
  • 3 tablespoons All-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 0.5 cup Vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with a small amount of vegetable oil and set aside.

Step 2

Peel and grate the potatoes using the coarse side of a box grater. Place the grated potatoes in a bowl of cold water to prevent browning and remove excess starch.

Step 3

Grate the onion using the same side of the box grater. Place the grated onion into a large mixing bowl.

Step 4

Drain the grated potatoes well using a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth. Squeeze the potatoes to remove as much moisture as possible, then add them to the mixing bowl with the onion.

Step 5

In a separate small bowl, beat the eggs until smooth. Pour the beaten eggs into the potato and onion mixture.

Step 6

Add the flour, salt, ground black pepper, garlic powder, and baking powder to the mixing bowl. Stir the mixture thoroughly until all ingredients are well combined.

Step 7

Heat the vegetable oil in a small saucepan over medium heat until just hot but not smoking. Pour the hot oil carefully into the potato mixture and stir immediately to incorporate.

Step 8

Transfer the potato mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly with a spatula. Smooth the top to ensure even cooking.

Step 9

Bake in the preheated oven for 60 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crispy, and the kugel is cooked through.

Step 10

Allow the kugel to cool slightly before slicing into squares or serving directly from the baking dish.
