Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
Cook the penne pasta in a large pot of salted boiling water until al dente, according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon. Remove excess grease if necessary.
Add the diced onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 4-5 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 more minute.
Pour in the marinara sauce, then stir in the Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
