Ingredients

  • 4 large sweet potatoes
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar
  • 6 tablespoons butter
  • 0.5 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 0.25 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup chopped pecans
  • 3 tablespoons butter, melted

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Step 2

Peel the sweet potatoes and cut them into large chunks.

Step 3

Place the sweet potato chunks in a large pot of water. Bring to a boil and cook until tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain the sweet potatoes and return them to the pot.

Step 4

Mash the sweet potatoes with a potato masher or fork until smooth.

Step 5

Stir in the granulated sugar, 6 tablespoons of butter, milk, eggs, vanilla extract, and salt. Mix well until the mixture is fully combined and smooth.

Step 6

Transfer the sweet potato mixture into a greased 9x13-inch casserole dish, spreading it out evenly.

Step 7

In a small bowl, prepare the topping: Mix the brown sugar, all-purpose flour, chopped pecans, and melted butter until crumbly.

Step 8

Sprinkle the topping mixture evenly over the sweet potato layer in the casserole dish.

Step 9

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the topping is golden and slightly crisp.

Step 10

Remove from the oven and allow it to cool for a few minutes before serving.
