Ingredients

  • 1 pound Breakfast sausage
  • 6 White bread slices
  • 2 cups Shredded cheddar cheese
  • 6 Large eggs
  • 2 cups Whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon Dry mustard powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 0.5 cup Green onions, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon Butter, softened (optional, for greasing)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Step 2

Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with the softened butter (optional) to prevent sticking.

Step 3

In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the breakfast sausage until browned and completely cooked through. Drain any excess fat and set aside to cool slightly.

Step 4

While the sausage cools, cut the white bread slices into 1-inch cubes and spread half of them in an even layer on the bottom of the prepared baking dish.

Step 5

Sprinkle half of the cooked sausage and 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese over the bread cubes.

Step 6

Add the remaining bread cubes over the first layer, followed by the rest of the sausage and cheddar cheese. Sprinkle the chopped green onions on top.

Step 7

In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, dry mustard powder, salt, and black pepper until well combined.

Step 8

Pour the egg mixture evenly over the layers in the baking dish, ensuring it soaks into the bread and covers all ingredients.

Step 9

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight to allow the bread to soak up the egg mixture.

Step 10

When ready to bake, remove the casserole from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for 15-20 minutes.

Step 11

Bake the casserole, covered, for 40 minutes, then remove the aluminum foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the casserole is set in the center.

Step 12

Allow the casserole to cool for about 10 minutes before slicing and serving. Enjoy!
