Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 cups cooked white rice
  • 1 cup feta cheese, crumbled
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons parsley, chopped
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1.5 cups breadcrumbs
  • 0.25 cup parmesan cheese, grated
  • 0.5 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 cups vegetable oil for frying

Directions

Step 1

In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, onion, and garlic until the beef is browned and fully cooked. Drain excess grease and set aside to cool slightly.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked ground beef, cooked rice, feta cheese, parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until evenly incorporated.

Step 3

Form the mixture into small balls, about the size of a golf ball, and set them on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.

Step 4

Prepare three separate bowls: one with flour, one with the beaten egg, and one with a mixture of breadcrumbs and grated parmesan cheese.

Step 5

Roll each rice ball in the flour, then dip it into the beaten egg, and finally coat it in the breadcrumb mixture. Ensure each ball is fully coated.

Step 6

In a deep skillet or large saucepan, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Test the temperature by dropping a small piece of bread into the oil; it should sizzle and brown within a few seconds.

Step 7

Fry the rice balls in batches, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Cook until golden brown on all sides, about 2-3 minutes per batch.

Step 8

Use a slotted spoon to transfer the fried rice balls to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

Step 9

Serve warm as an appetizer or snack, with your choice of dipping sauce such as marinara or tzatziki.
