Ingredients

  • 12 oz egg noodles
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 12 oz canned tuna or cooked shredded chicken
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp ground black pepper
  • 0.5 cup breadcrumbs (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

Cook the egg noodles according to the package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Step 3

In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. If you prefer a crispy topping, set aside 1 tablespoon of melted butter to mix with breadcrumbs later.

Step 4

Add the canned tuna (drained) or cooked shredded chicken to the skillet and cook for 1-2 minutes to warm through.

Step 5

Stir in the cream of mushroom soup and milk, mixing until combined and heated through.

Step 6

Add the frozen peas, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and ground black pepper. Stir gently to evenly distribute.

Step 7

Remove the skillet from heat and add 1 1/2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese, stirring until melted into the mixture.

Step 8

In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked egg noodles with the tuna or chicken mixture. Toss until the noodles are evenly coated.

Step 9

Transfer the mixture into a lightly greased 9x13-inch baking dish, spreading it into an even layer.

Step 10

Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of shredded cheddar cheese over the top. If using breadcrumbs, mix them with the reserved melted butter and sprinkle over the cheese layer.

Step 11

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and the top is lightly golden.

Step 12

Remove the casserole from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes before serving. Enjoy!
