Ingredients

  • 4 large Russet potatoes
  • 1 lb Ground beef
  • 1 medium Onion
  • 3 large Eggs
  • 2 cups Shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 1.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Paprika
  • 2 tablespoons Cooking oil

Directions

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish and set it aside.

Step 2

Peel and grate the potatoes, then place them in a bowl of cold water to prevent browning. Drain and pat dry before mixing.

Step 3

Heat 1 tablespoon of cooking oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon. Remove from heat and drain excess fat.

Step 4

Finely chop the onion and add it to the ground beef mixture. Stir well and set aside to cool slightly.

Step 5

In a large mixing bowl, lightly beat the eggs. Add the shredded cheddar cheese, flour, baking powder, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Mix until well combined.

Step 6

Stir in the drained grated potatoes, followed by the cooked ground beef and onion mixture. Ensure everything is well incorporated.

Step 7

Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly.

Step 8

Drizzle the remaining tablespoon of cooking oil over the top of the kugel to help it brown during baking.

Step 9

Bake in the preheated oven for 50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the center is firm.

Step 10

Allow the kugel to cool for 5–10 minutes before slicing. Serve hot or warm, garnished with additional cheese or fresh herbs if desired.
