Ingredients

  • 4 whole apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 4 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 4 tablespoons raisins
  • 2 tablespoons chopped walnuts (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup water

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

Wash and core the apples, making sure to remove the seeds and create a hollow center without cutting all the way through to the bottom.

Step 3

In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, cinnamon, raisins, and walnuts (if using).

Step 4

Stuff the hollow center of each apple with the brown sugar mixture, pressing it down lightly to fill.

Step 5

Place the apples in a baking dish, ensuring they are snug and upright.

Step 6

Top each apple with about 1/2 tablespoon of butter, pressing it onto the filling.

Step 7

Pour the water into the bottom of the baking dish to help create steam and prevent sticking.

Step 8

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.

Step 9

Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 10 minutes, or until the apples are tender and easily pierced with a fork.

Step 10

Let the baked apples cool for a few minutes before serving. Serve warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
