Ingredients

  • 240 ml Warm water
  • 2 tbsp Granulated sugar
  • 2.25 tsp Active dry yeast
  • 120 ml Milk
  • 2 tbsp Unsalted butter (softened)
  • 2 tsp Salt
  • 600 g All-purpose flour

Directions

Step 1

In the Kitchenaid mixing bowl, combine the warm water and sugar. Stir gently to dissolve the sugar.

Step 2

Sprinkle the active dry yeast over the water-sugar mixture and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until the mixture is foamy and activated.

Step 3

While waiting for the yeast to activate, warm the milk slightly (lukewarm, not hot) and set it aside.

Step 4

Once the yeast is activated, add the milk, softened butter, salt, and 300g of the flour to the bowl.

Step 5

Attach the dough hook to your Kitchenaid stand mixer and start mixing at low speed to combine the ingredients.

Step 6

Gradually add the remaining 300g of flour to the mixture, about 50g at a time, allowing it to fully incorporate before adding more.

Step 7

Increase the mixer speed to medium-low and knead the dough for 5-7 minutes until it is smooth, elastic, and pulls away from the sides of the bowl.

Step 8

Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and shape it into a ball. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turning it to coat all sides with oil.

Step 9

Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let the dough rise in a warm, draft-free place for 1-1.5 hours or until it has doubled in size.

Step 10

Once the dough has risen, punch it down gently to release the air. Turn it out onto a floured surface and shape it into a loaf.

Step 11

Grease a standard 9x5-inch loaf pan and place the shaped dough inside. Cover again and let it rise for another 30-40 minutes until it has risen slightly over the top of the pan.

Step 12

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) while the dough completes its second rise.

Step 13

Bake the bread in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped.

Step 14

Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 5 minutes. Then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
