Ingredients

  • 1 cup Granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cup Light corn syrup
  • 0.25 cup Unsalted butter
  • 0.5 cup Heavy cream
  • 0.25 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 1 drop Edible food coloring (optional)
  • 0.5 cup Powdered sugar

Directions

Step 1

Grease a baking dish (8x8 inches) with butter or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

Step 2

In a medium saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, light corn syrup, unsalted butter, and heavy cream.

Step 3

Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly until the sugar dissolves and the butter melts.

Step 4

Attach a candy thermometer to the saucepan and heat the mixture until it reaches 240°F (soft-ball stage). This will take approximately 10-12 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent scorching.

Step 5

Once the mixture reaches 240°F, promptly remove it from the heat and stir in the salt, vanilla extract, and optional food coloring for a touch of festive color.

Step 6

Carefully pour the hot candy mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly.

Step 7

Allow the candy to cool completely at room temperature for about 1 hour, or until firm but not hard.

Step 8

Once cooled, dust a clean surface lightly with powdered sugar. Turn the candy out onto the surface, and, using a sharp knife, cut it into small squares, rectangles, or any desired shape.

Step 9

Optional: To prevent sticking, toss the candy pieces in additional powdered sugar.

Step 10

Store the candies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days. Perfect for gifting in decorative bags or boxes!
