Ingredients

  • 6 pieces Mars bars (standard size)
  • 0.5 cups Unsalted butter
  • 3 cups Crispy rice cereal
  • 1.5 cups Semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons Peanut butter (optional, for topping)

Directions

Step 1

Prepare a 9x9-inch square baking pan by lining it with parchment paper or greasing it lightly with non-stick spray. Set aside.

Step 2

Dice the Mars bars into small chunks for easier melting.

Step 3

In a large, heatproof bowl, combine the chopped Mars bars and unsalted butter.

Step 4

Place the bowl over a pot of simmering water (double boiler method) and stir gently until the Mars bars and butter are completely melted and smooth. Alternatively, you can microwave the mixture in 30-second increments, stirring in between, until melted.

Step 5

Once the mixture is melted, immediately stir in the crispy rice cereal. Mix thoroughly until the cereal is fully coated with the Mars bar mixture.

Step 6

Transfer the mixture into the prepared baking pan. Press down firmly and evenly with the back of a spatula to create a flat layer. Place the pan in the fridge to chill for 15-20 minutes.

Step 7

Meanwhile, melt the semi-sweet chocolate chips in a heatproof bowl using the double boiler method or in the microwave in 30-second increments, stirring between each interval.

Step 8

If using, stir in the peanut butter with the melted chocolate for an extra creamy topping.

Step 9

Pour the melted chocolate (or chocolate-peanut butter mixture) over the chilled cereal layer and spread evenly using a spatula.

Step 10

Refrigerate the pan for at least 1 hour or until the chocolate topping has set completely.

Step 11

Once set, use the parchment paper to lift the dessert out of the pan. Cut into 16 squares using a sharp knife.

Step 12

Serve chilled or at room temperature. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
