Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ground beef
  • 0.5 lb Ground pork
  • 0.75 cup Breadcrumbs
  • 0.25 cup Milk
  • 1 piece Large egg
  • 0.5 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 0.25 teaspoon Red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 3 cups Marinara sauce

Directions

Step 1

In a small bowl, combine the breadcrumbs and milk. Let sit for 5 minutes to allow the breadcrumbs to absorb the liquid.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, soaked breadcrumbs, egg, Parmesan cheese, minced garlic, parsley, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Mix thoroughly using your hands, but avoid overmixing to keep the meatballs tender.

Step 3

Form the mixture into meatballs, roughly 1.5 inches in diameter, and place them on a baking sheet or plate. You should make about 16-18 meatballs.

Step 4

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, add the meatballs in a single layer, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Sear the meatballs for 2-3 minutes on each side until browned.

Step 5

Remove the browned meatballs from the skillet and set aside on a plate. They do not need to be fully cooked at this stage.

Step 6

In the same skillet, pour in the marinara sauce and bring it to a gentle simmer. Add the meatballs back into the skillet, spooning some of the sauce over them to coat.

Step 7

Cover the skillet with a lid and let the meatballs simmer in the sauce for 20-25 minutes, or until they are cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F). Stir occasionally and ensure the sauce does not stick to the bottom of the pan.

Step 8

Serve the meatballs warm, garnished with additional Parmesan cheese or parsley if desired. Pair them with spaghetti, crusty bread, or enjoy as is!
