Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 packet Instant yeast
  • 0.75 cup Warm water (110°F/45°C)
  • 1 tablespoon Granulated sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 0.5 cup Grated mozzarella cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Minced garlic (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons Butter (melted)
  • 0.5 teaspoon Dried oregano (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and instant yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.

Step 2

Add the olive oil, salt, and 1 1/2 cups of the flour to the bowl. Mix until a sticky dough forms.

Step 3

Gradually add the remaining 1/2 cup of flour, a little at a time, and knead the dough for 5-7 minutes until it is smooth and elastic. You can do this by hand or with a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook.

Step 4

Cover the dough with a clean towel and let it rest in a warm place for 10-15 minutes.

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Lightly flour a surface and roll the dough into a rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick.

Sprinkle the grated mozzarella cheese evenly over one half of the rectangle, along with the minced garlic if using.

Fold the other half of the dough over the cheese, pressing gently to seal.

Cut the dough into 12 equal strips using a pizza cutter or knife. Twist each strip a few times and place them on the prepared baking sheet.

Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the breadsticks are golden brown.

As soon as the breadsticks come out of the oven, brush them with melted butter and sprinkle with dried oregano if desired.
