Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon Baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon Granulated sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 cup Unsalted butter (cold, cubed)
  • 0.75 cup Buttermilk (cold)
  • 1 cup Cheddar cheese (shredded)
  • 2 tablespoons Green onions (thinly sliced)
  • 0.25 teaspoon Cayenne pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon Milk (for brushing, optional)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, cayenne pepper, and garlic powder.

Step 3

Add the cold cubed butter to the dry ingredients and use a pastry cutter or your fingertips to work it into the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.

Step 4

Gently fold in the shredded cheddar cheese and sliced green onions.

Step 5

Pour the cold buttermilk into the bowl and stir just until the dough comes together. Do not overmix—it’s okay if the dough looks a little shaggy.

Step 6

Using a large spoon or a cookie scoop, drop 8 equal portions of the dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them at least 2 inches apart.

Step 7

If desired, brush the tops of the biscuits lightly with milk for added browning.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown on top.

Step 9

Remove the biscuits from the oven and let them cool slightly on the baking sheet before serving warm.
