Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 0.25 teaspoons salt
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups vegetable oil
  • 0.75 cups powdered sugar

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt.

Step 2

In a separate bowl, beat 3 large eggs, then mix in 2 tablespoons of sour cream and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.

Step 3

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms.

Step 4

Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.

Step 5

Divide the dough into two portions. Roll each portion out very thin (about 1/8 inch thick).

Step 6

Using a sharp knife or pastry cutter, cut the dough into strips about 1 inch wide and 5 inches long. Make a small slit in the center of each strip and pull one end of the strip through the slit to create a twist.

Step 7

In a large, deep skillet, heat 2 cups of vegetable oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

Step 8

Fry the twisted pastries in batches, turning occasionally, until they are golden brown on both sides (about 1-2 minutes per side).

Step 9

Remove the fried pastries from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Step 10

Allow the pastries to cool slightly, then dust generously with 3/4 cup of powdered sugar.

Step 11

Serve the Khrustyky warm or at room temperature. Enjoy!
