Ingredients

  • 8 cups Green cabbage
  • 1 cup Carrots
  • 0.25 cup White onion
  • 0.5 cup Mayonnaise
  • 0.25 cup Granulated sugar
  • 0.25 cup Milk
  • 2 tablespoons Buttermilk
  • 2 tablespoons Lemon juice
  • 1.5 tablespoons White vinegar
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon Ground black pepper

Directions

Step 1

Remove the outer leaves of the green cabbage and finely shred about 8 cups using a sharp knife, mandoline slicer, or food processor. Place shredded cabbage in a large bowl.

Step 2

Peel and grate the carrot to get 1 cup. Add it to the bowl with the cabbage.

Step 3

Finely dice the white onion to yield 1/4 cup and mix it into the bowl with the vegetables.

Step 4

In a separate medium-sized bowl, prepare the dressing by whisking together mayonnaise, granulated sugar, milk, buttermilk, lemon juice, white vinegar, salt, and ground black pepper until smooth and well combined.

Step 5

Pour the dressing over the shredded cabbage mixture.

Step 6

Using a large spoon or spatula, toss the coleslaw thoroughly until all the vegetables are evenly coated with the dressing.

Step 7

Cover the coleslaw bowl with plastic wrap or transfer it to an airtight container. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours (overnight is ideal) to allow the flavors to meld together.

Step 8

Before serving, stir the coleslaw to redistribute the dressing. Serve chilled as a side dish for fried chicken, barbecue, or your favorite main course.
