Ingredients

  • 4.5 cups All-purpose flour
  • 0.25 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2.25 teaspoons Instant yeast
  • 1 cup Whole milk
  • 0.25 cup Unsalted butter
  • 0.25 cup Water
  • 2 Large eggs
  • 1.5 cups Brown sugar
  • 0.5 cup Heavy cream
  • 0.25 cup Corn syrup
  • 0.5 cup Salted butter
  • 0.5 cup Light brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 cup Optional chopped pecans or walnuts

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of the flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast. Set aside.

Step 2

In a small saucepan, heat the milk, unsalted butter, and water over low heat until the butter is melted and the mixture is warm (110°F to 115°F).

Step 3

Gradually pour the liquid mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring until blended.

Step 4

Add the eggs one at a time and continue mixing until smooth.

Step 5

Slowly incorporate the remaining 2.5 cups of flour, 0.5 cup at a time, until a soft dough forms.

Step 6

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 6-8 minutes, or until the dough becomes smooth and elastic.

Step 7

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise for 1-1.5 hours, or until it doubles in size.

Step 8

In a saucepan, prepare the caramel topping by combining 1.5 cups brown sugar, heavy cream, corn syrup, and salted butter. Cook over medium heat until the mixture is golden and smooth. Pour the caramel into a greased 9x13-inch baking dish.

Step 9

On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough into a 12x18-inch rectangle.

Step 10

Spread 0.5 cup of softened salted butter over the dough evenly, leaving a 1-inch border.

Step 11

Mix light brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl, then sprinkle the mixture evenly over the buttered dough. Add chopped pecans or walnuts if desired.

Step 12

Starting with the long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log. Pinch the seams to seal.

Step 13

Cut the log into 12 evenly sized rolls and arrange them on top of the caramel in the baking dish, cut side down.

Step 14

Cover the dish with a clean towel and let the rolls rise for an additional 30-45 minutes, or until they double in size.

Step 15

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

Step 16

Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.

Step 17

Let the rolls cool for 5 minutes, then carefully invert the pan onto a serving platter to release the caramel topping.

Step 18

Serve warm and enjoy!
