  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 0.5 medium, finely chopped Onion
  • 3 minced Garlic cloves
  • 28 ounces Crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon Dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon Dried basil
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 0.25 teaspoon, optional Red pepper flakes
  • 5 roughly chopped Fresh basil leaves
  • 1 teaspoon Erythritol or another keto-friendly sweetener

Directions

Step 1

Heat the olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.

Step 2

Add the finely chopped onion to the pan and sauté for about 3-4 minutes until softened and translucent.

Step 3

Stir in the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant.

Step 4

Pour in the crushed tomatoes and stir to combine with the onions and garlic.

Step 5

Add dried oregano, dried basil, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes if using. Stir to mix the spices into the sauce.

Step 6

Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer. Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer uncovered for about 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 7

Taste and adjust the seasoning if necessary. Add the erythritol or another keto-friendly sweetener to balance the acidity of the tomatoes.

Remove the sauce from heat and stir in the fresh basil leaves.

Step 9

Let the sauce cool slightly before serving. Use it as a base for keto-friendly pizzas, a topping for zoodles, or a dipping sauce.
