Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20)
  • 0.5 pound ground pork
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 celery stalks, finely chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 28 ounces canned crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 0.5 cup red wine
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.25 cup heavy cream
  • 0.5 cup parmesan cheese, grated (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.

Step 2

Add the chopped onion and celery. Cook for about 5 minutes, until the onion becomes translucent.

Step 3

Add the minced garlic, and sauté for another minute until fragrant.

Step 4

Increase the heat to medium-high, add the ground beef and ground pork to the pot. Cook and stir until completely browned.

Step 5

Drain excess fat, if necessary, leaving about a tablespoon in the pot for flavor.

Step 6

Stir in the red wine and allow it to simmer for about 2 minutes to let some of the alcohol cook off.

Step 7

Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, and beef broth. Stir well to combine.

Step 8

Season with salt, black pepper, dried oregano, dried basil, and add the bay leaf.

Step 9

Lower the heat to a gentle simmer, cover the pot partially, and cook for about 75 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 10

Remove the bay leaf, then stir in the heavy cream. Simmer for another 5 minutes to heat through.

Step 11

For extra richness, stir in grated Parmesan cheese just before serving.

Step 12

Serve hot over zucchini noodles or spaghetti squash for a complete keto meal.
