Ingredients

  • 500 grams Ground beef
  • 1 large Egg
  • 3 Garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons Fish sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon White pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 1.5 liters Beef broth
  • 200 grams Chinese cabbage, chopped
  • 2 Green onions, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons Cilantro, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon Chili paste (optional)
  • 4 pieces Lime wedges

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, egg, minced garlic, fish sauce, salt, white pepper, and baking powder.

Step 2

Mix the ingredients thoroughly using your hands until the mixture is smooth and well-incorporated.

Step 3

Shape the meat mixture into small meatballs, approximately 1 inch in diameter.

Step 4

In a large pot, bring the beef broth to a boil over medium-high heat.

Step 5

Carefully add the meatballs into the boiling broth. Let them cook in the broth until they float to the top and are fully cooked, about 10-15 minutes.

Step 6

Reduce the heat to medium and add the chopped Chinese cabbage. Let it simmer for another 5 minutes until the cabbage is tender.

Step 7

Taste the soup and adjust the seasoning with more salt or white pepper if needed.

Step 8

Stir in the green onions and cilantro just before serving, reserving some for garnish.

Step 9

Drizzle a small amount of sesame oil into the soup for additional flavor.

Step 10

Ladle the hot soup into bowls and garnish with additional green onions, cilantro, and a squeeze of lime.

Step 11

Add a spoonful of chili paste if extra heat is desired.
