Wash the fresh ewedu leaves thoroughly under running water to remove any dirt.
In a medium-sized pot, add 500 ml of water and bring to a boil over medium heat.
Add the potash (kaun) to the boiling water. This helps break down the leaves and gives the soup its characteristic slimy texture.
