Ingredients

  • 2 pieces Pork tenderloin
  • 0.25 cup Soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 2 tablespoons Oyster sauce, keto-friendly
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon Chinese five-spice powder
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Grated fresh ginger
  • 2 tablespoons Sukrin Gold (or any keto-friendly brown sugar substitute)
  • 1 drop Red food coloring (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon Rice vinegar

Directions

Step 1

In a mixing bowl, combine the soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, Chinese five-spice powder, minced garlic, grated ginger, Sukrin Gold, and rice vinegar. Add red food coloring if using to achieve the classic Char Siu color.

Step 2

Place the pork tenderloins in a large resealable bag or shallow dish. Pour the marinade over the pork, ensuring each piece is well coated. Seal the bag or cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight for full flavor.

Step 3

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and place a wire rack on top.

Step 4

Remove the pork from the marinade, shaking off any excess, and place it on the prepared wire rack. Reserve the remaining marinade for basting.

Step 5

Roast the pork in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, basting with the reserved marinade every 10 minutes.

Step 6

Increase the oven temperature to 425°F (220°C) and roast for an additional 5-10 minutes, or until the pork develops a rich caramelized glaze and reaches an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C).

Step 7

Remove from the oven and let the pork rest for 5 minutes before slicing.

Step 8

Slice the Char Siu into thin pieces and serve as desired. It pairs well with cauliflower rice or steamed keto-friendly vegetables.
