Ingredients

  • 2 medium-sized Turnips
  • 1 cup Frozen peas
  • 2 tablespoons Ghee or Coconut Oil
  • 1 medium Onion, finely chopped
  • 2 Garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger, minced
  • 1 large Tomato, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 0.5 teaspoon Ground turmeric
  • 0.5 teaspoon Red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon Ground coriander
  • 0.5 teaspoon Garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1 cup Water

Directions

Step 1

Begin by peeling the turnips and cutting them into small, bite-sized cubes. This helps them mimic the size and texture of traditional potatoes.

Step 2

Heat ghee or coconut oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them sizzle until fragrant, about 30 seconds.

Step 3

Add the chopped onion to the pan and sauté until translucent, about 4-5 minutes.

Step 4

Stir in the minced garlic and ginger, and cook for another 2 minutes until aromatic.

Step 5

Add the chopped tomato to the pan and cook until it starts to break down and release its juices, about 3-4 minutes.

Step 6

Mix in the ground turmeric, red chili powder, and ground coriander, stirring well to combine with the onion-tomato mixture.

Step 7

Add the cubed turnips to the pan, along with salt. Stir to coat the turnips with the spice mixture.

Step 8

Pour in the water and bring the mixture to a simmer. Cover the pan and let it cook for 15 minutes, or until the turnips are tender.

Step 9

Add the frozen peas to the pan, stir, and cook for an additional 5 minutes until peas are cooked through.

Step 10

Sprinkle garam masala over the mixture, stir well, and adjust seasoning if needed.

Step 11

Garnish with freshly chopped cilantro before serving.

Step 12

Serve hot as a side dish or a main course with your choice of keto-friendly sides.
