Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ground beef (80% lean)
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Black pepper
  • 0.5 tsp Garlic powder
  • 0.5 tsp Onion powder
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp Vegetable oil
  • 4 Hamburger buns
  • 2 tbsp Butter
  • 4 Cheddar cheese slices
  • 4 leaves Lettuce
  • 1 Tomato
  • 8 slices Pickles
  • 4 tbsp Ketchup
  • 4 tbsp Mayonnaise

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix gently with your hands until just combined; do not overmix to avoid tough burgers.

Step 2

Divide the beef mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into a patty about ¾ inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty with your thumb to prevent puffing while cooking.

Step 3

Heat a large skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Add the vegetable oil and swirl to coat the surface.

Step 4

Place the patties in the pan and cook for 3-4 minutes on one side without pressing down. Flip the patties and cook for another 3-4 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F for medium doneness.

Step 5

During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty to melt. Remove the patties from the heat and let them rest for a few minutes.

Step 6

While the patties rest, slice the hamburger buns in half and spread butter on the cut sides. Toast the buns in a clean skillet or on the grill until golden brown.

Step 7

Assemble the burgers by spreading 1 tablespoon each of ketchup and mayonnaise on the bottom bun. Layer with a lettuce leaf, a slice of tomato, 2 pickle slices, the cooked patty with melted cheese, and the top bun.

Step 8

Serve the burgers immediately with your favorite side dishes and enjoy!
