Ingredients

  • 2 medium Ripe banana
  • 2 cups Whole wheat flour
  • 2 tablespoons Poppy seeds
  • 1 tablespoon Sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoons Cardamom powder
  • 0.25 teaspoons Salt
  • 1 tablespoon Ghee
  • 2 cups Oil
  • 2 tablespoons Water

Directions

Step 1

Peel the ripe bananas and mash them thoroughly in a large mixing bowl using a fork or potato masher until smooth and free of lumps.

Step 2

Add the whole wheat flour, poppy seeds, sugar, cardamom powder, and salt into the bowl with the mashed bananas. Mix well to combine.

Step 3

Drizzle in the ghee, then gradually add the water, one tablespoon at a time, while kneading the dough. The dough should be soft, pliable, and slightly sticky.

Step 4

Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 10 minutes.

Step 5

Divide the rested dough into equal portions about the size of a golf ball. Roll each portion into a smooth ball.

Step 6

Dust a rolling surface with a small amount of whole wheat flour. Roll each ball into a small circle about 4 inches in diameter, ensuring it is evenly thick.

Step 7

Heat the oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat until it is hot but not smoking. Test by dropping a small piece of dough into the oil; it should rise to the surface quickly and start to bubble.

Step 8

Gently slide one rolled puri into the hot oil. Using a slotted spoon, lightly press the puri so it puffs up. Flip it over and fry until golden brown on both sides.

Step 9

Remove the puri with the slotted spoon and drain on a paper towel. Repeat the frying process with the remaining puris.

Step 10

Serve the puris hot with a side of yogurt, chutney, or your favorite curry dish.
