Ingredients

  • 6 pieces fresh roma tomatoes
  • 3 pieces jalapeños
  • 2 pieces habanero peppers
  • 4 pieces garlic cloves
  • 1 medium red onion
  • 0.5 cups cilantro
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoons black pepper

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven broiler on high.

Step 2

Place the roma tomatoes, jalapeños, habanero peppers, garlic cloves (unpeeled), and the halved red onion onto a baking sheet lined with foil.

Step 3

Broil the vegetables for 7–10 minutes, turning them halfway through, until they are slightly blackened and charred.

Step 4

Remove the baking sheet from the oven and let the vegetables cool slightly. Peel the garlic and remove the charred skins from the tomatoes, if desired.

Step 5

Add the broiled vegetables to a food processor or blender along with the chopped cilantro, lime juice, ground cumin, salt, and black pepper.

Step 6

Pulse the ingredients until the salsa reaches your desired texture—chunky or smooth.

Step 7

Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. For extra heat, add one more habanero pepper and blend again.

Step 8

Transfer the salsa to a serving bowl and let it sit for at least 15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Step 9

Serve with tortilla chips, tacos, or as a topping for grilled meats!
