Ingredients

  • 1.5 pounds Ground beef (80% lean, 20% fat)
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 4 slices Pepper jack cheese slices
  • 4 buns Hamburger buns
  • 0.25 cup Mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons Sriracha sauce
  • 2 whole Jalapeño peppers (sliced)
  • 2 tablespoons Cooking oil (vegetable or canola)
  • 2 tablespoons Butter
  • 4 leaves Lettuce leaves
  • 4 slices Tomato slices
  • 4 slices Red onion slices (optional)

Directions

Step 1

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix thoroughly but gently, being careful not to overwork the mixture.

Step 2

Divide the beef mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into patties roughly ¾ inch thick. Use your thumb to make a small indentation in the center of each patty to prevent them from puffing up during cooking.

Step 3

Preheat a large skillet or grill over medium-high heat. Add 1 tablespoon of cooking oil to prevent sticking if you're using a skillet.

Step 4

Cook the beef patties for 3-4 minutes on the first side, until a nice crust forms. Flip the patties and cook for another 3-4 minutes, or until they reach your desired level of doneness. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of pepper jack cheese on each patty to melt.

Step 5

While the patties are cooking, slice the hamburger buns in half. Spread butter on the cut sides, then toast them on a separate skillet or grill until golden and lightly crisp, about 1-2 minutes.

Step 6

In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise and sriracha sauce to make the sriracha mayo. Adjust the sriracha to taste for more or less spice.

Step 7

In a small skillet, heat the remaining tablespoon of cooking oil over medium heat. Add the jalapeño slices and fry for 1-2 minutes per side, until they're slightly crispy. Remove and set aside on a paper towel to drain any excess oil.

Step 8

To assemble, spread a generous amount of sriracha mayo on the bottom half of each bun. Layer on a lettuce leaf, a slice of tomato, and (if using) a slice of red onion. Place the cooked burger patty with melted cheese on top.

Step 9

Add a few crispy jalapeño slices over the patty, then place the top bun on and press gently to hold everything together.

Step 10

Serve immediately with your favorite side dish, like fries or a crisp side salad, and enjoy the bold flavors of your Kamikaze Cheese Burgers!
